Lagos State Chapter of Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) has decried the incessant attacks on its members.
In a press release sent to our correspondent via WhatsApp as signed by the Association ‘s Chairman, Mr. Kola Olasupo reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to the attack meted out to three of our members in the #ENDSARS protest in Lagos.
Two of our members from The Nation Newspaper; Deputy Photo Editor, Comrade Isaac Jimoh Ayodele and Abiodun Williams were victims of the attacks.
“Isaac was attacked by hoodlums at Mafoluku area of Lagos in the cause of carrying out his official duties. He was attacked when he went to get the shots of the burnt Makinde Police station located in the Mafoluku area and narrowly escaped after much beating while, Williams was attacked at Yaba area of Lagos and his camera completely damaged.”
The statement continued: ” Another member, Mike Otogo a Photojournalist with The Economy Magazine was equally attacked, at Ojodu area of Lagos when he went to cover Ojodu Police station which was set ablaze by hoodlums. Although he was lucky to escape , his camera was smashed on the ground by hoodlums
“This attack is one- too many as members were only carrying out their lawful duties.”
Olasupo urged members, to stay safe and be security conscious of their movement as they carry out their official assignments.
